Gangster Drama Struggles Despite Rs3.96 Billion Opening; OTT Offers Reportedly Plunge to as Little as Rs990 Million as Makers Consider New Cut for Digital Release
MUMBAI (G.B News Daily )The gangster drama, which was released in theatres on August 26, has reportedly struggled at the box office amid largely negative audience reactions.
According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, ‘Toxic’ opened at around ₹120 crore in India, but its theatrical run is now expected to end with collections below ₹250 crore.
The film’s reported digital rights have emerged as another major challenge for the producers.
A source cited by Bollywood Hungama said the makers had earlier received an offer of around ₹150 crore from a leading streaming platform but were seeking more than ₹200 crore.
The team reportedly expected strong theatrical collections to help negotiate a more lucrative post-theatrical deal.
However, with the film performing below expectations, streaming platforms are now said to be offering substantially less.
According to the report, OTT offers for the film across all languages have fallen to as little as ₹30 crore, with ZEE5 reportedly making the highest offer.
Satellite rights are also expected to provide limited recovery, reportedly because of the film’s adult-oriented storyline.
In an effort to improve its prospects on streaming platforms, the makers are reportedly considering a new edit specifically for the OTT release.
“The makers are now contemplating a completely new edit for the digital version, with the hope of fetching a bigger amount than what’s on the table,” a source told Bollywood Hungama.
Discussions are reportedly underway over whether a revised cut could help the film secure a better streaming deal.
